Kelcy Warren, an esteemed alumnus of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), has made a monumental $12 million donation,
marking the largest single philanthropic gift in the university’s history. This
significant contribution is set to propel UTA to the forefront of the resource
and energy engineering (REE) sector.
Warren, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1978, is the
executive chairman and chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer
LP. His donation will primarily support the College of Engineering’s newly
introduced REE bachelor’s degree program. The funds will be allocated to
enhance faculty excellence, cutting-edge research, and provide students with
unparalleled educational and career opportunities.
In light of Kelcy Warren’s contribution, UTA will establish several endowed positions
and facilities. These include the Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in
Resource and Energy Engineering and two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty
Fellowships. Moreover, the REE laboratory space and a dedicated career
experience center will also bear his name.
This gift will significantly benefit the students, providing scholarships for REE
undergraduates—dubbed Kelcy Warren
Scholars—and fellowships for engineering graduate students, known as Warren
Fellows. Additionally, the funding will support research experiences for
undergraduates, preparing them for successful careers in the energy industry.

change the landscape of UTA,” said UTA President Jennifer Cowley. She
emphasized that this investment would establish UTA as a national leader in the
energy sector.
Scheduled to commence in the fall of 2023, the REE program will be the first of its kind in
the United States. Housed in the Electrical Engineering Department, the
curriculum will include instruction on both conventional and renewable energy
sources, addressing the pressing workforce needs in Texas.
Warren’s enduring support for UTA spans over 25 years, during which he has contributed more than
$4 million in various gifts. His latest donation not only underscores his
ongoing commitment to education but also highlights his dedication to fostering
